Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide with the sequence Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro (TKPRPGP), identified by CAS number 129954-34-3. It is an analogue of tuftsin — an endogenous immunomodulatory tetrapeptide derived from the heavy chain of immunoglobulin G — extended at the C-terminus by the same Pro-Gly-Pro stabilising motif used in Semax, which substantially increases its resistance to enzymatic cleavage. Developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Selank has been characterised in preclinical anxiolytic research, where studies have investigated positive allosteric modulation of GABA-A receptor signalling alongside effects on serotonergic and noradrenergic turnover.
