PT-141 (bremelanotide) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH), identified by CAS number 189691-06-3. It is a metabolite of Melanotan II in which the C-terminal amide is replaced by a free acid, giving a lactam-bridged ring structure (Ac-Nle-cyclo[Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys]-OH). PT-141 acts as an agonist at the melanocortin receptors, with highest activity at MC3R and MC4R. Research has examined its activity in central melanocortin signalling pathways and hypothalamic receptor models.
