Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. The preservative suppresses microbial growth inside the vial, so the same vial can be drawn from repeatedly across a working window of roughly 28 days from first puncture when held at controlled room temperature. Plain sterile water carries no preservative and is intended for single use once opened. It is the standard diluent for returning lyophilised research peptides to solution. Freeze-dried peptide arrives as a solid cake and must be reconstituted before any in-vitro work; the diluent chosen affects the stability of the resulting solution and how long it stays usable. Reconstitution volume also sets the final concentration, which is why the calculation is normally done before the vial is broached rather than after. This 3mL presentation is sized for a single compound or a short project.
